Month: January 2018

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 23

Man, I need to stop these late night posts. Ahh well. Day has been going well. I did just get back from my walk. Plenty of music to listen to, and Pokémon to catch.

Feeling excited today. Everything is starting to come together. In a couple of months, I will be headed to New York to bowl in the USBC Open Tournament. This will be my Eleventh year bowling the tournament. I missed one year in 2010 when my mother passed away. The event is a lot of fun. The condition is a lot harder then the typical house shot at a normal bowling center. Plus, you get to travel to places. I think this year there are about 7-8000 teams registered to bowl. Each team is five members. That is a lot of bowlers! More on this when I get closer to go time.

Monday recap

Ohh man, bowling was rough. My team got destroyed. I did not bowl well my first couple of games. I did bowl a decent third game at least. I didn’t get out for a walk, but that is fine.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1479 Calories, 8 net carbs. I didn’t eat breakfast, but did have a larger lunch, and a bit of a light dinner.

Exercise:

Not done, other then my bowling!

Sleep:

12:28 am to 8:34 am. Though it was a rough wake up. Sometimes I just can’t sleep through my wife getting ready for work. Too many lights or noise. Plus, I’m already sore at that time.

Tomorrow

More trip planning. I need to go to the store to pick up some food as well. Can’t go too crazy since the wife doesn’t get paid till Friday! I also need to start working on my computer area. It’s a mess right now. It might take a bit, but it is one project that is overdue.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 22

Week 3 Wrap up

I was going to write up a summary for yesterday, but it will be included in my Week 3 wrap up.

I have to say, this week has me feeling great. Not only do I feel like I am in a good place with my food intake, but I feel amazing emotionally. There is a lot going on with me right now. Preparation for future bowling trips, etc. It just seems like life is all flowing in the right way for me.

My blood sugar levels have seemed pretty normal since dropping all my diabetes medications. I looked at my test results, and they looked fine to me. Just waiting to see if my doctor says anything. Otherwise, I am going to stay off that medication!

Weight loss wise, I am losing weight again. Last week was a stall week for sure. I thought I was only down one or two pounds when I weighed myself this morning. Then I looked over the numbers, and saw that I am 5 pounds lighter this week. That is a total of 19 pounds since January 1st.

367.6 lbs on January 1st
348.6 lbs on January 22nd

Weight loss hasn’t been something I want to focus on. It is the side effect from eating properly, and getting in exercise. I am very happy to see things moving how I want.

Food:

1/15 –  1426 Calories, 16 net carbs
1/16 –  1438 Calories, 12 net carbs
1/17 –  1781 Calories, 12 net carbs
1/18 –  1401 Calories, 9 net carbs
1/19 –  1458 Calories, 9 net carbs
1/20 –  1288 Calories, 12 net carbs
1/21 –  1301 Calories, 13 net carbs

This week, I didn’t have any real cravings for food. Temptation was all around with pizza and fried foods at bowling. I even had Cinnamon candy Oreo’s to deal with at home. Nothing tempted me to stay from my eating. Yes, I would have enjoyed all those things a month ago, but the me now doesn’t want it. Maybe someday, but first I need to get myself to my goal area.

Exercise:

Pretty close to my first week. Beat week 2 for sure.

1/15 – None
1/16 – 1.3 Miles, 22 minutes
1/17 – None
1/18 – None
1/19 – 2.6 Miles, 47 minutes
1/20 – None
1/21 – 2.3 Miles, 41 minutes

I think this coming week, I need to increase my walking days to 5. I need to push. Plus last night, I started to get that urge to try running again. I still think I might be too heavy for that. If I keep this up though, it won’t be long.

Sleep:

Sleep has mostly been fine. Quite a few morning I woke up sore, but hopefully a new bed can fix that. I feel like my routine is working well. Computer off at 11:30 pm, then reading till 12:30 am. Some days I flex a little with this, but it is the general idea of what I am doing.

I have made it through Leviathan Wakes, the first book in the Expanse series. So tonight, I am on to book 2.

Pushing harder to week 4

Onward we go into week 4. Push harder, keep working.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 21

Today started off with these on the kitchen island

My wife was worried I would be upset. I like the cinnamon candy like red hots, and of course it is Oreo. Luckily, I had no “OMG MUST EAT IT!!!” impulses. I am curious how it is, but it actually didn’t bug me.

I also got a email from Fitbit. It displayed my 2017 stats.

Now I know what I need to beat in 2018!

It is later, and I still need to get in a walk. Before that though, time for my recap.

Saturday Recap

I didn’t get out for a walk. I had late bowling that was an hour plus drive. Food eating was a bit weird because of this, and I think my sleep was off a bit, because I had too much on my mind.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary. 1288 Calories, 12 net carbs. Because of the bowling, I had to eat earlier, then I ate when I got home. This was like 10:30 pm though, so really late.

Exercise:

None done. I didn’t get out early, and there was no way to get out after bowling.

Sleep:

Fitbit tracked me 12:30 am to 8:12 am. Not bad for hours, but I did have trouble getting to sleep.

Monday

Tomorrow brings my week 3 summary.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 20

Whew, it is late. Sorry I didn’t get this in earlier.

I had Match Club bowling tonight. I bowled up in Pinole, Ca. It is a little over an hour to drive there. Then we had some lane issues that made me get home even later!

Bowling started off a bit rough. 187-181-277 for a 645 series. The middle game the lanes went down for 15-20 minutes. Eventually though, I got my grove going. The last game was feeling great. The other match club teams had finished by the time we were in the 6th frame of our last game. My match club was down 2-1 so far, so my team needed to win the series to make it a 2-2 split. So me bowling 277 really did it for us that last game.

Now some match clubs still offer food. There use to be big meals planned out. The hosting team would setup before we got there. Now though, Most all the clubs in the area stopped. Owners are too afraid of someone getting sick, and suing the bowling alley.

Tonight Pinole did have some food.

Two Pizzas, fried zucchini (I think), fries, wings, and mozzarella sticks. You guessed it, right behind the lanes I was bowling on. A month ago, I would have been all over this. Tonight though, I wasn’t even phased. It surprised me that I wasn’t tempted at all by it.

On to my Friday recap

I got a walk in. In general, I have been feeling great this week. Just riding this power of positivity!

This is WWE The New Day. They talk about the power of positivity a lot in their wrestling promos. I figured I would bring some of that in here.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1458 Calories, 12 net carbs. It was a little odd yesterday, but it worked out. Had a burger from Burger King (No bun, no ketchup), and salad from Mcdonalds.

Exercise:

2.62 miles 47 minutes. It’s all over the place on the map, because I was getting pokéstops. I was going to go with a shorter walk, but decided to do some extra.

Sleep:

12:30 am to 8:44 am. I tried getting all the sleep. Still, I woke up some.

Onward to tomorrow

It is late, and cutting into my reading time, then bed. I will try to get out for a walk tomorrow, and will need to do some food prep.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 19

Happy Friday!

Almost time for the weekend. I do have Match Club bowling tomorrow up in Pinole, Ca. I haven’t bowled there yet, so I am excited!

Today started off early. I had my eye exam this morning. I hadn’t realized how long it had been since my last exam. It was only in 2013. I have been going in ever two years for the diabetic eye picture they take. I’m due for that again in October.

The eye exam went well. It looks like my left eye changed a little bit. I’m overdue for some new glasses anyway! The doctor was concerned that I have high pressure in my eyes. That is an early indicator for Glaucoma. I have always had high pressure in my eyes. The doctor looked at my previous eye pictures, and saw nothing wrong. Still, she wanted some additional testing.

Luckily, they were able to see me in just a few minutes for the new testing. I didn’t have to make an appointment and come back. I was there for the Humphery Visual Field test. After that was done, I went to have a laser mapping done on my eye.

Then, I finally went for blood work. There was a lot of people in there, but I don’t think I was there too long.

When I got home, I noticed I had message waiting from my doctor. I usually see these when test results come in from blood work. So I wasn’t sure what to expect already.

The message was from the eye doctor:

Hi Mr. Tate,

Great news! The results of both the visual field test and nerve scans were completely normal. Please return next year for your routine eye exam.

Thank you,
doctor name here

So go to go with my eyes! Now the wait begins for my blood work results.

Thursday recap

Thursday was no walking. I did bowl in my Thursday night league, and did pretty well. Mood has been really great the last few days

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1401 Calories, 9 net carbs. Everything was going fine. A little boring for most, but fine for me. I did enjoy the ham and cheese omelet for breakfast.

Exercise:

None for the day

Sleep:

12:37 am to 7:23 am tracked. Had to get up early for my appointment. Overall so far this week has been rough on my sleep. A bit of too much on my mind, and just getting so sore while sleeping. We really need to get a new bed soon.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 18

Today it looks like we are back on the rainy cycle. I didn’t get out for any walks today. I had the chance this morning, but didn’t take it. I did bowl tonight. 235-208-191 for a 634 series. Not too bad, I’ll take it.

I have been feeling really great these last couple of days since I have stopped all diabetes medication. I think those days I was having it rough, was from low blood sugar, and not from having low electrolytes. My blood sugar numbers have been much closer to normal levels now.

Tomorrow morning, I have my Eye Exam, and I will be stopping off at the lab to get my blood work in. Will have to wait and see what the doctor says after that.

I’m hoping it “Just don’t take them still” kinda news. This just enforces to me that Keto really is the way to be eating.

Wednesday Recap

Yesterday was a bit rough. Not just for me, but the family. 4 1/2 hours at the doctors. Thank goodness it wasn’t the 6 hours scheduled. Then just everything else going on.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1781 Calories, 12 net carbs. The Calories were higher then I would have liked, but acceptable. I am mostly worried about making sure those net carbs are correct. We did go to Mcdonalds after the appointment. I had a salad and Double cheese burger with no bun, ketchup, or onions. I had snacked on pork rinds earlier. I made sure to pack a little something in case I got hungry while at the doctors. Plus I had my water with me.

Exercise:

None done. Honestly, I probably could have gotten something in there, but things were already overwhelming for the day.

Sleep:

My fitbit uploaded weird again, by having it start at 2 am. I adjusted it to 12:35 am to 8:11 am. Then when I reloaded, things looked better. I think it is pretty accurate, as I woke up a lot last night. Not sure what it was. I know in the morning, there was now way to get comfortable anymore, and I had to get up.

For Tomorrow

I will be getting up early to get my Eye Exam in, and my blood work done. I am planning to get the blood work done before the eye exam, so I’ll be getting up at 7 am. Hopefully, I can get in a walk too.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 17

Whew, today has been a roller coaster.

This morning we took my son in for evaluation to see if he falls into the Autism spectrum. 6 hour appointment, but lasted about 4 1/2 hours. Looks like he is what they would call a High Functioning Autistic. A very slight level 1. It is more the little nuances that get him in. They said if he wasn’t as social as he is, then he would fall into a deeper category.  There are classes he can be put in to help with trying to correct some of the social nuances he has. They are minor, but there. So catching it now, and trying to work on it will help him greatly in the future.

I’m actually feeling alright with this. Now they we know what we are dealing with, it will be easier to get the correct help that he will need in the future.

Since I knew things would be a little crazy, I tried to prepare a bit. I just had some chicken meatballs for breakfast, and took some pork rinds to snack on there. Plus my trusty water was by my side. I felt like it would have been very easy for me to slip into the “Just grab something I want” at a fast food place. We did get Mcdonalds, but I went with my normal salad, and a double cheese burger with no bun, onions, or ketchup.

On the blood sugar front, my numbers are returning to normalish numbers. This is without taking the medication for a day. I probably won’t get in bloodwork tomorrow, but I will get it on Friday.

Tuesday recap

Tuesday felt like a good day for me. I think not taking my diabetes meds actually helped too. I felt much better waking up. Go Go Keto :)  Felt good enough to get in a small walk.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1438 Calories, 12 net carbs.  No issues with food. It feels like I am still going strong here. I don’t feel like I have to eat all the time. Not as bad on the impulses to want to eat something not in my plan. Last couple of days, I am eating more of the chicken meatballs, and pork rinds

Exercise:

1.35 miles in 22 minutes. It was shorter, but I tried to maintain the intensity a bit more.

Sleep:

Sleep was alright. I tried lying in a different starting position last night, and I think my body wasn’t having it. I also had to get up early, because we took my kid into his appointment.

Now I am off to read, and get ready to some sleep! Good night all!
