My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 151

Not a whole lot done today. My wife had a doctors appointment in the morning. Afterwards, we ran over to Walmart to get a few items. My son was out early today, so after shopping, we picked him up. Then we journeyed up to the new place. There were a few things I wanted to measure out, and we wanted to show my younger son his new bed. The older kid went with us too, and brought some items over.

On the way home, we stopped by a storage place. It looks like we will have to have at least a small one for a few items. Like Christmas stuff. I’ll also have my comics and cards there. The goal is to go through them eventually. 😉

Today before I left for bowling, I noticed someone had dug through our roll off dumpster. Things were spread all over. So now we get to have the fun of picking it all up.

I have been out of fat bombs for a couple of days, so last night, I went and made a double batch of the KetoConnect Cookies and Cream fat bombs

I think they may have even turned out better this time. The biggest thing I like with these, is that I can quickly add some fat to my macros when I am not getting as much as I want.

Food:

05/30 MyFitnessPal – 1846 Calories, 14 net carbs, 54 oz of water tracked.

Not on purpose, but I had like a 23 hour fast. I didn’t break my fast until 3 pm. This in turn made me try to eat a lot of calories for a meal, but there just wasn’t a way for me to do it. I did a second meal, but that was later at night. I usually don’t like eating after 6 pm. Calories were a little higher then I wanted, but OK overall.

Sleep:

12:17 am to 7:53 am. 6 hrs 55 mins total. 15 x awake for 41 mins. I read, then headed off to bed. The heater came on at some point, and I was super sweating in bed. I hate that very much. 🙂

Tomorrow

More moving! We have to go through the roll off bin, and re-stack the throw out items. Then add more stuff to it. We are moving items to storage next Tuesday. My current desk is one of the items going. So I need to figure out what I am going to do. Most likely, just use my laptop for now.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Days 149 & 150

Forgot to get in a blog post yesterday. Everything is still going well for the most part. I haven’t been having any weird mood swings or anything.

Yesterday while working in the garage, I decided to mix a little Apple cider vinegar with my water. It took a little bit to get use to it, but overall it wasn’t bad. I had seen some Dr. Berg videos were he talked about drinking some. He used it with other ingredients. You can read up on some of it here

The REAL Reason Why Apple Cider Vinegar Works

Overall, I found it interesting. Of course I did lose a couple more pounds afterwords 😉 I don’t exactly attribute apple cider vinegar for that though. It isn’t something I have done every day, but I may bring it on from time to time. I want to keep looking into it more, but it may just be good on a Keto way of eating.

There hasn’t been much going on, other then moving stuff.

Today, I setup my son’s new bed, and we got my other son’s desk made today in the new place. Plus we unloaded a couple of items we brought over. I still have my new desk to build over there. That should be in Monday. I also have my oldest son bed to build up there.

We got in a Goodwill donation run yesterday as well. It was kind of a pain. We went to the store. They asked us to go to the drop off truck, because the guy got super busy. We went to the truck, and the guy there wouldn’t help us. Told us to go to the store. He had to clean up stuff that someone dropped off before he opened. (it really was not very much) We had to go back to the house for my wife to have a phone interview. Finally, we went back to the store, and was able to drop off the items.

Food:

The last couple of days, food has been on point. I am missing my fat bombs, so I am about to go make a double batch when I am done here. We got some food from costco today. There is some swiss cheese that I am really liking a lot. No carbs even! 🙂

Sleep:

The last two nights, I have been back on target. I am finishing the book “Level Up Your Life” by Steve Kamb. He is the guy behind Nerd Fitness. I have had the book since it came out, but never got around to reading it. Honestly, not my typical book I like to read. That said, it is a very good book to start people in the right direction. I figured I would finish this book off, then move on to the other stuff I have ready to read.

I haven’t been getting to sleep as soon as I want too, but it will come. I’ve also been waking up too early.

The rest of the week

It is pretty much, just more moving. I have plenty I want to get done, and food cooked. We just have to see if I can pull it all off.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 148

Time seems to be flying lately. I guess that is what happens when you get super busy with life. 🙂

Last week wasn’t anything major. My weight stay pretty much the same, I still ate Keto the whole time, and my sleep was erratic.  We did finally sign a lease for a new place. Going from a 3 bedroom house, to a 3 bedroom apartment. We are downsizing quite a bit. Which overall is good. Finally we are getting through all that old clutter that has been building up over the years.

There are some negatives about the new place. Obviously, less storage. There was also only one parking space available to rent. Street parking will be insane. There is no yard, so we will have to take the dog out for walks.

That said, there are positive points too. There is a pool there. There is also a workout facility open 24×7. Nothing too fancy. There are a few treadmill and elliptical machine. There are some dumbells, and some other workout machine there. I’ll have to see once I actually go in there. No excuse not to workout now!

Food

05/21 MyFitnessPal – 1791 Calories, 11 net carbs, 73 oz of water
05/22 MyFitnessPal – 1721 Calories, 16 net carbs, 64 oz of water
05/23 MyFitnessPal – 1759 Calories, 11 net carbs, 51 oz of water
05/24 MyFitnessPal – 1793 Calories, 9 net carbs, 68 oz of water
05/25 MyFitnessPal – 1837 Calories, 16 net carbs, 52 oz of water
05/26 MyFitnessPal – 1797 Calories, 14 net carbs, 64 oz of water
05/27 MyFitnessPal – 1791 Calories, 2 net carbs, 47 oz of water

Overall, I felt eating went fine. Pretty close to macros, Though I really didn’t lose weight this week.

Sleep

I was all over the board this last week. After 1 am many times this week. So this week, I need to get it all straightened out.

This week

It is all about moving time. That is the main focus. Go though, donate what we can, sell what we can, trash the rest.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Days 144-147

Sorry, I haven’t been updating. I’ve just been busy going though the garage. We have our roll off dumpster for the next few days, so time to fill it up.

I’ve got e-waste piles and donation piles. So while I am not out walking, I am getting some exercise in a different form. 🙂

The last few days

Food:

Food has been on point. I haven’t stopped my IF too much. I have had a few different times, but now real problems. Each day I have still been getting in my macro mostly. Just about out of my fat bombs, so I need to make more very soon. It is very nice having something like that on hand for a quick pop.

Sleep:

Sleep however, has been all over  the board. This time at least, it hasn’t been from anxiety or anything. I have been planning things for the move. Sometimes, I do get my brain fired up. One night I went to bed on time, but couldn’t sleep until like 2 or 3.

This coming week

Of course, moving is Job#1. Besides that though, I do need to get a few other items finished. Pre-cooking would be great. Bread, chicken, fat bombs, and maybe more. All things I have been wanting to get done.

With Monday coming up, I need to get my week in review going. It is also the first day for the latest Nerd Fitness Challenge. I have my thread up “Tateman tries to survive June” This means taking “official measurements and pictures” for the start.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 143

Looks like we have a new place to move too. Today, we got keys to our apartment. Now things get real! haha

Now at least we won’t go homeless. We took the kids by the place today, so we can scope out rooms and see how we are going to set things up. The computer area will be crapped for sure, but we will make it work out.

Mentally, I am feeling decent. Things are looking good in the job search for my wife. She gets to go in person to meet up with people at one place. I’m hoping that next week sometime, she might have the job. So she gets to start a new job, we get to move, we have my son’s party, and I am going down near Los Angeles at the end of June. June will be so easy! haha.

Tuesday

Food:

05/22 MyFitnessPal – 1721 Calories, 16 net carbs, 64 oz of water

Overall, not bad. I had some Togo’s Pastrami in a bowl. Plus I had my Ketoconnect.net snowball cookie, and Cookies and Cream fat bomb. That help me get in my fats.

Sleep:

2:14 am to 8:30 am. 5 hr 43 mins. 12 x Awake for 33 mins. So yeah, I didn’t get to bed on time. I wanted to, but then I went down the rabbit whole of measuring items, and other moving distractions. Really need to work on correcting my sleep.

Tomorrow

I do have my sweepers night in bowling tomorrow night. Maybe I can win a bit of money! 🙂

Otherwise, the focus has just become the move really. I need to make some items to eat. Still nice and busy.

My Journey to a Healthy me, Day 142

Today, we were off to check out apartments. Filled out the information for one. We are pre-approved so far. Tomorrow we have a meeting with them to turn over keys and such.

Assuming all is well there, that is at least one things off my mind.

Now it just means it is go time. There will be so much to do during this June, that moving will be interesting.

My wife had a couple more interviews today with potential companies. I hope they both offer her something soon. Then things will really be falling into place.

Yesterday, I made some Keto fat bombs. Specifically, the Cookies and Cream fat bombs from KetoConnect. Overall, I like them. A bit different then I expected, but good enough that I have been eating them. 😉 Really, it is all about the protein powder you use. If you like that, you will like these. I want to make the chocolate and peanut butter ones next. I also need to get some bread made, since I finished off my other loaf.

Food:

05/21 MyFitnessPal – 1791 Calories, 11 net carbs, 73 oz of water.

Everything seemed fine for eating. Dinner I made scrambled eggs with ham and swiss cheese in them. We got the swiss cheese from Costco, and it is really good.

Sleep:

1:34 am to 9:30 am. 7 hrs 12 mins. 15 x awake for 44 mins. Yeah, I was late to bed again. I may be late tonight, but I am trying to work on it. I will be needing my sleep for this coming move for sure!

Tomorrow

I need to get some cooking done, but we have a meeting with the apartment people tomorrow. After that, maybe I can get some things made. I will be having a few Keto challenges soon. #1 my son’s graduation party. I’ll have to not eat cake there. #2 With all this moving, I need to make sure I have foods around that I can eat. #3 I bowl down south at the end of June. I am not sure what I should do there. Probably, I will just try to stay keto. Maybe bring a few things to help me out. This is all rumbling around in my head, but I have to focus on getting things ready for this move.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 141

It is a new week. This last week I struggled.

We continue the fight though. Each week, each day is a fresh start. I’m still remaining mostly positive. I am just ready for things to start falling in place. I am hoping next week is good news in the job front for my wife.

Now on to the recap. 🙂

Weight loss

Today, I was 306.1 lbs. 5.1 lbs lost this week. This brings me to 61.5 lbs total since January 1st. I’ve also noticed differences. At least in my profile. Some a bit in my face.  I had bought new jeans, and those are starting to get more loose.

I even had a guy come up to me from our Match Club bowling. He asked if I had been losing quite a bit, because I looked like I have.

So very positive points. Good wins for me to focus on. 🙂

Food

05/14 MyFitnessPal – 1500 Calories, 14 net carbs, 80 oz of water
05/15 MyFitnessPal – 1894 Calories, 11 net carbs, 56 oz of water
05/16 MyFitnessPal – 1781 Calories, 8 net carbs, 42 oz of water
05/17 MyFitnessPal – 1758 Calories, 16 net carbs, 56 oz of water
05/18 MyFitnessPal – 1831 Calories, 13 net carbs, 52 oz of water
05/19 MyFitnessPal – 1767 Calories, 9 net carbs, 88 oz of water
05/20 MyFitnessPal – 1802 Calories, 14 net carbs, 58 oz of water

As you can see, I upped my calorie intake up. I was hitting the plateau of weight loss again. I didn’t understand why. How could I not lose weight, and I know I was hitting under what I need. Some from stress yes, but I should still be losing. Apparently, if you eat at too big of a deficit, then your body will react in bad ways. Like holding on to all the weight. So, I checked my macros and saw I was eating at a 40-45% deficit each day. I made it even worse when I was doing exercise like running and walking, but didn’t really eat more. After I checked the macros, I started increasing my calorie intake. Getting as close as I could to my numbers. Now I am still aiming for a 30% deficit. So far, it is working. It was like the next day and I started losing weight again. It is so weird to think you have to eat more to lose more. haha 🙂

Exercise

Really, I have stopped all exercise. Whenever I “test” myself, the ankle hurts enough to make me stop. So really, I am stopping it for now. I don’t know when I will get back to walking and running. For the moment though, I will be working hard to get my house cleaned up and ready for out move.

Sleep

I started off the week, mostly fine. With news of having to get out of our house, I freaked out more. I hadn’t read each night, only a couple of nights. My bedtime has varied as well.

One thing I have noticed for sure, is just how much a good sleep is. Staying up late, then getting up early is not cool. So much harder to do things when you are so tired. Then that just feed right into the mental problems.

I’ve got some reading material in now, so I will try to get back on track with my sleeping. I have started sleeping in a new position as well, and it seems to be better for me so far. I am getting sounder sleep, without having to move because I was sleeping over my arm or whatever.

This week

This week is hoping for my wife to get a job offer. (more phone interviews tomorrow) Plus we will be checking out some apartments. Hopefully, we can get that nailed down soon as well.

June is super packed. I am bowling state tournament that last weekend. We have family coming up for my son’s graduation party. Plus, we probably need to get moved before all this in the middle of the month.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Days 138-140

Sorry guys, looks like I am missing days again. Stress and anxiety are really acting up. Toss in a dash of depression, and you get me not wanting to do much of anything. Well, other them me just wallowing in thoughts.

This morning, I just wanted to stay in bed, and let things just happen with magic. hahaha.

So mentally, I have struggled. I stayed up super late last night. Just looking at housing. Worrying about how we can get a place to live when there is no income yet. Like we are being hit from all sides at once. No job, not too worried. That should come. Have a job, but have too move, OK we can make it work. Instead, there is no job yet for my wife. (though some hopeful prospects) We have until July 1st to be out of the house because the owner wants to move back in. I could get out to try to get a job, but any tech skills I had are at least 8 years old. Even if they were current, I don’t believe I would be able to get a high enough paying job anytime soon. Rent here is so expensive. One of the “cheaper” places we looked at a couple of days ago. Not far from here, and nice. Still $3,050 for rent. Today we were looking at how much apartment type places would be. Of course, those are not that much cheaper. $2600-2800 range for 3 bedrooms.

So all of this, and my wife is worried too. We even though about just up and moving someplace. What about Nevada, or some other state. That is very risky too.

One constant at least, is my Keto. I am sticking too it. I had bowling this weekend, so I had to break up my fasting schedule. Still, I pulled it off. Sticking closer to what my macros should be is also working. I am losing weight again. I am absolutely thrilled with that.

Still Fighting

I’m still in here fighting it out. I got up today, and got all the dishes done that I let pile up over these last few days. It isn’t much, but it is a small little victory. It made me feel good to at least get that done.

I’m not mentally going to win all these days, but ever little victory is helping. So I just have to keep fighting.

I do believe, things will work out. I have to believe this.  Really though, even if we have to pack up and go live with my sister in law, we will find a way to make it work.

All the little victories

I was getting ready this morning, and caught my profile in the mirror. It made me want to take some pictures, so I could compare to my January 1st photos. Now I don’t see much in my face, nut my gut is smaller. So maybe tomorrow, or maybe the beginning of next month, I will have to get a picture take so I can see some changes.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow brings in a new week, and an all new chance for me to succeed. I’ll post up a week summary. I think I will also cook a few items. Fat Bombs, a different Keto Bread, and some chicken. At least that is the plan for now. 🙂

My Journey to a Healthy Me Days 136 & 137

I didn’t get into blog yesterday. 😦 I did get quite a few things done though. I made some chicken breasts, chicken wings, and then trying to make Walnut Snowball Cookies from KetoConnect.net

Mine look the part, but I don’t think they taste right.

I think they are still pretty good though. I just struggled with the recipe a bit I think.

Macros

So far, I have been very close to how my macros should be with the 30% deficit. I am down to 308 this morning. I am hoping the trend continues. I will have to make sure to check my macros ever so often to see if I need to adjust. For now, things are moving along, so I can complain.

Stress

No where I have some control of my food. I don’t have much control over some of this stress and anxiety I am having. Today we were told that our Landlord wants us to be gone by July 1st.

Now, we knew he wanted to move back in for awhile. So honestly, I figured we would end up moving June or July time frame anyhow. Now it is just official. It freaks me out knowing my wife doesn’t have a job yet. She does have some very promising leads though. So I am not at full level stress. We just wanted it to be in order. She gets the job, we try to live as close as we can afford to the job. We may need to move first, then she gets the job. I am hoping in the next week or so she might start getting some offers coming in. 🙂

Exercise

Well, I am going to have to roll back on my exercise. I tried to test out the ankle today. There is a park by my son’s school. So I did a little bit of walking around there before walking in to pick him up. I didn’t push or speed walk, or any of that. On the way back to the car, my ankle was hurting. It wasn’t horrible tonight at bowling, but I could feel it. I can feel it just walking around the house.

I could do other things to exercise of course, but I think my real focus needs to be on our move. So much needs to get ready. We are going to get a roll off dumpster next week. So I will be tossing things out during Memorial day haha. Hopefully, we can donate or sell what we can though. Just it is time to really downsize. Plus, I need to be reading for moving. This time I think we will have people come load the truck, and unload at least. Still, tons of work to do before that.

Tomorrow

I have clean up to do still, from making all the things. We also are headed out to get some shopping done. I also need to have a few things for me to take this weekend. I have a Match Club event, and it is a 2 hour drive one way. I am taking my oldest with me. Since it will be Pokemon Go Community day, we are heading up early to do some Pokemon hunting before I have to bowl. 🙂

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 135

Even though I am not out walking, this week seems to be off to a positive enough start for me. Mentally, I am feeling better at least.

Last night, I started trying to finds out what kind of reasons I might be stalling a bit in my weight loss.  I found  The Ketogenic Diet and Weight Loss Plateaus and Not Losing Weight on Keto? Here are 10 Reasons Why

Basically, I think my problem boils down to a couple of reasons.

#1 – Not eating enough, especially with added exercise

So I have been lazy keto for awhile. Then I added in more and more walking this month, along with running. The thing I didn’t really do was adjust my macros and calorie intake.

#2 – Stress

Now, I didn’t think I was really that stressed out or anything. Sure, with my wife out of work, I was having the occasional freak out moments. I just didn’t think of stress being related. Reading the 10 reasons I saw it pretty clear though. My Cortisol levels might just be elevated.

What is cortisol?

Cortisol is a hormone responsible for storing fat around your stomach area and can make weight loss a challenge.

Cortisol also has the ability to channel glucose to the muscles during the body’s response to stress, leaving less fuel for the brain[*]. Cortisol is known as the stress hormone. It’s one of the top hormones we release when we’re under pressure or in a fight-or-flight situation.

While it’s often contributed to undesirable symptoms such as acne or weight gain, it is necessary for our survival. It plays a major role in keeping us alert, awake and motivated. The issues start to kick in when cortisol production becomes chronic.

The last couple of weeks, I have had weird acne popping up. I think it has also been a role in not letting me sleep as well.

Along with reading these articles, I decided to check my Keto Macros Ketogenic Calculator.

My numbers when not exercising should be close to this:
1796 Calories
133 g Fat
19 g Carbs (net)
131 g Protein

This is at a 30% deficit. from the calculator:

It’s recommended to never go above a 30% calorie deficit. It’s also recommended that you never go above a 15% calorie surplus. If you do, negative results may happen.

For all this time, I have been doing more of a 40-45% deficit.

If I move up to Moderately active. (walking and running) My numbers should be close to this:
2165 Calories
155 g Fat
19 g Carbs (net)
174 g Protein

Again at a 30% deficit. Looking back at last week on Monday. I had 10,421 steps. I ran C25k that day. My numbers were:
1820 Calories
144 g Fat
17 Net Carbs
112 g Protein

So I was at a 41% calorie deficit.

Now, from time to time, I am sure this is OK, but I have been doing this since January. Some days, I was only hitting 12-1300 calories.

To me this seems pretty straight forward. Stress I can only try to control so much. My food though, I can control that.

The rest of this week, I am going to focus more on the macros. I’m not out walking or anything yet. I will try to match up close to the first set of numbers. If I can do this successfully, I am hoping my body reacts in a positive way.

Today

I finally, made some Keto Bread 🙂

Headbangerskitchen.com Keto Coconut Flour Bread I toasted a couple of slices and it was better then I though. My pan was a little wide, so it really isn’t very tall. Plus, I took it out of the pan too early, and it sank back down. I might try to have some tomorrow with breakfast. Maybe I can pull off a breakfast sandwich. 😉
