My Journey to a Healthy Me, Days 138-140

Sorry guys, looks like I am missing days again. Stress and anxiety are really acting up. Toss in a dash of depression, and you get me not wanting to do much of anything. Well, other them me just wallowing in thoughts.

This morning, I just wanted to stay in bed, and let things just happen with magic. hahaha.

So mentally, I have struggled. I stayed up super late last night. Just looking at housing. Worrying about how we can get a place to live when there is no income yet. Like we are being hit from all sides at once. No job, not too worried. That should come. Have a job, but have too move, OK we can make it work. Instead, there is no job yet for my wife. (though some hopeful prospects) We have until July 1st to be out of the house because the owner wants to move back in. I could get out to try to get a job, but any tech skills I had are at least 8 years old. Even if they were current, I don’t believe I would be able to get a high enough paying job anytime soon. Rent here is so expensive. One of the “cheaper” places we looked at a couple of days ago. Not far from here, and nice. Still $3,050 for rent. Today we were looking at how much apartment type places would be. Of course, those are not that much cheaper. $2600-2800 range for 3 bedrooms.

So all of this, and my wife is worried too. We even though about just up and moving someplace. What about Nevada, or some other state. That is very risky too.

One constant at least, is my Keto. I am sticking too it. I had bowling this weekend, so I had to break up my fasting schedule. Still, I pulled it off. Sticking closer to what my macros should be is also working. I am losing weight again. I am absolutely thrilled with that.

Still Fighting

I’m still in here fighting it out. I got up today, and got all the dishes done that I let pile up over these last few days. It isn’t much, but it is a small little victory. It made me feel good to at least get that done.

I’m not mentally going to win all these days, but ever little victory is helping. So I just have to keep fighting.

I do believe, things will work out. I have to believe this.  Really though, even if we have to pack up and go live with my sister in law, we will find a way to make it work.

All the little victories

I was getting ready this morning, and caught my profile in the mirror. It made me want to take some pictures, so I could compare to my January 1st photos. Now I don’t see much in my face, nut my gut is smaller. So maybe tomorrow, or maybe the beginning of next month, I will have to get a picture take so I can see some changes.

Tomorrow brings in a new week, and an all new chance for me to succeed. I’ll post up a week summary. I think I will also cook a few items. Fat Bombs, a different Keto Bread, and some chicken. At least that is the plan for now. 🙂

My Journey to a Healthy Me Days 136 & 137

I didn’t get into blog yesterday. 😦 I did get quite a few things done though. I made some chicken breasts, chicken wings, and then trying to make Walnut Snowball Cookies from

Mine look the part, but I don’t think they taste right.

I think they are still pretty good though. I just struggled with the recipe a bit I think.

So far, I have been very close to how my macros should be with the 30% deficit. I am down to 308 this morning. I am hoping the trend continues. I will have to make sure to check my macros ever so often to see if I need to adjust. For now, things are moving along, so I can complain.

No where I have some control of my food. I don’t have much control over some of this stress and anxiety I am having. Today we were told that our Landlord wants us to be gone by July 1st.

Now, we knew he wanted to move back in for awhile. So honestly, I figured we would end up moving June or July time frame anyhow. Now it is just official. It freaks me out knowing my wife doesn’t have a job yet. She does have some very promising leads though. So I am not at full level stress. We just wanted it to be in order. She gets the job, we try to live as close as we can afford to the job. We may need to move first, then she gets the job. I am hoping in the next week or so she might start getting some offers coming in. 🙂

Well, I am going to have to roll back on my exercise. I tried to test out the ankle today. There is a park by my son’s school. So I did a little bit of walking around there before walking in to pick him up. I didn’t push or speed walk, or any of that. On the way back to the car, my ankle was hurting. It wasn’t horrible tonight at bowling, but I could feel it. I can feel it just walking around the house.

I could do other things to exercise of course, but I think my real focus needs to be on our move. So much needs to get ready. We are going to get a roll off dumpster next week. So I will be tossing things out during Memorial day haha. Hopefully, we can donate or sell what we can though. Just it is time to really downsize. Plus, I need to be reading for moving. This time I think we will have people come load the truck, and unload at least. Still, tons of work to do before that.

I have clean up to do still, from making all the things. We also are headed out to get some shopping done. I also need to have a few things for me to take this weekend. I have a Match Club event, and it is a 2 hour drive one way. I am taking my oldest with me. Since it will be Pokemon Go Community day, we are heading up early to do some Pokemon hunting before I have to bowl. 🙂

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 135

Even though I am not out walking, this week seems to be off to a positive enough start for me. Mentally, I am feeling better at least.

Last night, I started trying to finds out what kind of reasons I might be stalling a bit in my weight loss.  I found  The Ketogenic Diet and Weight Loss Plateaus and Not Losing Weight on Keto? Here are 10 Reasons Why

Basically, I think my problem boils down to a couple of reasons.

#1 – Not eating enough, especially with added exercise

So I have been lazy keto for awhile. Then I added in more and more walking this month, along with running. The thing I didn’t really do was adjust my macros and calorie intake.

#2 – Stress

Now, I didn’t think I was really that stressed out or anything. Sure, with my wife out of work, I was having the occasional freak out moments. I just didn’t think of stress being related. Reading the 10 reasons I saw it pretty clear though. My Cortisol levels might just be elevated.

What is cortisol?

Cortisol is a hormone responsible for storing fat around your stomach area and can make weight loss a challenge.

Cortisol also has the ability to channel glucose to the muscles during the body’s response to stress, leaving less fuel for the brain[*]. Cortisol is known as the stress hormone. It’s one of the top hormones we release when we’re under pressure or in a fight-or-flight situation.

While it’s often contributed to undesirable symptoms such as acne or weight gain, it is necessary for our survival. It plays a major role in keeping us alert, awake and motivated. The issues start to kick in when cortisol production becomes chronic.

The last couple of weeks, I have had weird acne popping up. I think it has also been a role in not letting me sleep as well.

Along with reading these articles, I decided to check my Keto Macros Ketogenic Calculator.

My numbers when not exercising should be close to this:
1796 Calories
133 g Fat
19 g Carbs (net)
131 g Protein

This is at a 30% deficit. from the calculator:

It’s recommended to never go above a 30% calorie deficit. It’s also recommended that you never go above a 15% calorie surplus. If you do, negative results may happen.

For all this time, I have been doing more of a 40-45% deficit.

If I move up to Moderately active. (walking and running) My numbers should be close to this:
2165 Calories
155 g Fat
19 g Carbs (net)
174 g Protein

Again at a 30% deficit. Looking back at last week on Monday. I had 10,421 steps. I ran C25k that day. My numbers were:
1820 Calories
144 g Fat
17 Net Carbs
112 g Protein

So I was at a 41% calorie deficit.

Now, from time to time, I am sure this is OK, but I have been doing this since January. Some days, I was only hitting 12-1300 calories.

To me this seems pretty straight forward. Stress I can only try to control so much. My food though, I can control that.

The rest of this week, I am going to focus more on the macros. I’m not out walking or anything yet. I will try to match up close to the first set of numbers. If I can do this successfully, I am hoping my body reacts in a positive way.

I finally, made some Keto Bread 🙂 Keto Coconut Flour Bread I toasted a couple of slices and it was better then I though. My pan was a little wide, so it really isn’t very tall. Plus, I took it out of the pan too early, and it sank back down. I might try to have some tomorrow with breakfast. Maybe I can pull off a breakfast sandwich. 😉

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Days 131-134

Oh man, then mental fight is real! I have been doing ok still, just when I hurt my ankle this week, it all seemed to come crashing down.

Weight Loss

So technically I lost weight this last week. I am now 311.2 lbs. 3.6 lbs this last week, and 56.5 lbs total since January 1st. The problem is, I didn’t loose weight all week. It wasn’t until today that that weight came off.

Seeing no weight loss all week, didn’t help the bad mental place I was in either. I’m not sure what is going on exactly.

One thought, is that I have been eating at such a Calorie deficient, that my body switched over into starvation mode and tried to save all the things, plus the extra water I may be drinking. Last night, I actually got up to 2,000 calories, and this morning I lost 3 pounds.

Maybe due to my exercising, then this last week dropping the exercise because of my ankle. I may need to re evaluate how much of a food deficit I eat at. I figured I would been still losing lots of weight at this point.

Food wise, I was fine this week. Finally, finished off my cheesecake this week. I had a few higher days of net carbs. Higher calorie days a few in the beginning of the week, but I was busting my butt then with running and walking.

So I was late a couple of nights to get to bed. I did read each night, except on 5/11. On 5/13 is when I decided to finish off the Expanse book. Now that I have that reading done, I need to find another book ASAP. Until then though, I am reading a book titled “Level Up Your Life” by Steve Kamb. He is the creator of Nerd Fitness. I have had the book for a long time, but just never got to reading it. I think it will only take me a couple of nights here to finish up. So time to shop for other reads.

05/13 – 1,640 steps

Only 2 active days. The rest I decided not to do to heal my ankle. I probably could have gone out and walked some, but I didn’t. I did do some work around the house that needed to get done, but not a real substitute.

This week

This week, I will probably not get out walking or running again. I tested a little today, and got a little pain feedback while I was picking up my kid from school. Bowling it seemed OK, but I am not constantly moving there. I did get into a project at home that I have been procrastinating about forever. I finally moved things around in my computer area. It is still a huge mess, so this week, I am focusing on getting it done. I need to down size a lot of old equipment. Who knows if and when we will need to move.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 130

Another day of not too much excitement. 🙂 My ankle is feeling better. Had a few pain jolts, but not too bad. I did consider going out for a walk, but decided not to push. I did go to bowling, though I bowled really badly.

A few weeks back, I did the Health + Ancestry kit. I got in results today. No major issues popped up in the health portion.

I did have these:

Hereditary Hemochromatosis (HFE‑Related)

Hereditary hemochromatosis is a genetic condition characterized by absorption of too much dietary iron. This may lead to iron overload, which can cause damage to the joints and certain organs, such as the liver, skin, heart, and pancreas. This test includes the two most common variants linked to this condition.

William, you have one of the two genetic variants we tested.

Hereditary hemochromatosis is caused by certain combinations of genetic variants. People with only one copy of this variant are not likely at risk of developing iron overload related to hereditary hemochromatosis.

Seems like nothing to be concerned of here really.

William, your genes predispose you to weigh about 6% more than average.

This predisposition doesn’t mean you will definitely weigh more than average. Keep in mind that your lifestyle and environment have a big impact on your weight.

Dang it! I am big boned! haha. Honestly, nothing major. Nothing here keeping me from a healthy lifestyle.

William, your genetic muscle composition is common in elite power athletes.

Studies have found that almost all elite power athletes (including sprinters, throwers, and jumpers) have a specific genetic variant in a gene related to muscle composition. You have the same genetic variant as these elite athletes.

Ohh yeah man. Time to get my inner athlete on! I should totally be lifting stuff 😉

Overall, pretty neat stuff. I got to see I have a bit more of British and Irish in my then I knew.

I also thought there would be more Native American since I had some relatives on both sides of the family. Just a long time ago I guess.

Will just give a quick update from yesterday.

12:12 am to 8:10 am. 6 hrs 48 mins. 19 x awake for 1 hrs 10 mins total. I didn’t get in my reading last night. Instead I finished watching Lost in Space on Netflix. Got into bed on time, but really did not sleep well.

No exercise done. Just a few steps in. 2131 steps.

Taking my car in for some service. My son is also sick, so he has a doctor’s appointment. I don’t think I will walk, but I may. I think I might rest more, and just focus on getting some things done around the house. I did that a bit today.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 129

Today, hasn’t been so exciting. I decided to take a rest day. My ankle is hurting a bit. I figured rest would be better then trying to push it. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Worse case, I’ll just walk.

Yesterday was actually a decent day. I felt the ankle pain, but still went out for a walk. Even went out for two walks to finish off the step goal.

This Week

Well, not too exciting for today. So hopefully, I can re pick things up the rest of the week. Here is hoping my ankle feels well enough to do something tomorrow.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 128

Yesterday was amazing! Well, at least it felt amazing. 🙂

I started off with my C25k Week 2 Day 1 run.

I was pretty happy that I finished that. I worried it was too much for me to handle. I just kept going though. Since I knew I upped my step goal to 8,000 steps, I had to get in all the steps I could. I walked around the park after the run.

This put me in a really good spot before it was even midday.

Before I went to bowling, I was already over the 8,000 step threshold. I knew I had my daily goal, now it was just how many extra would I get.

Bowling went well as well.

Yup, I messed up that 3rd game and missed out on the triplicate 215! haha. I was perfectly happy to miss out, because the guy I bowled against was pretty close to me as well. I checked the stats, and had 23 strike and 7 spares. 3 splits on the night. So pretty pleased.

At the end of the day, I hit 10,421 steps.99 active minutes. I can tell I really pushed it yesterday, because my legs have been really sore.

I got out and walked this morning. Plus another small bit when picking up my son from school. I’m at 6,800 right now. Still more work to be done! I may hit up a small walk after my raid tonight. I also didn’t pay attention to my carbs, and am already at 17 net carbs today. Dinner will be lite on the carbs for sure. Oddly enough, I had a dream last night, that I accidentally went over my carb limit for the day. Then I went crazy with all the eating. It would be how I would do it in the past for sure.
