My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 10

10 days in, and I feel like I am still doing well. I have felt extremely busy trying to get all the things done. Prepping food, cleaning dishes, buying more food, bowling, gaming, and most important, taking care of the kids.

Today so far I emailed my doctor about my lower blood sugar numbers. My meter keeps screaming at me, so maybe we can discuss a plan to fit my lifestyle now. I also am due for an eye exam. I scheduled that for next week.

I also went out and picked up some pickles and pork rinds today. Just to give me a little something extra. Also grabbed some spinach to mix into my salads.

Day 9 review

Day 9 I woke up not feeling that great. Just tired. Might have been electrolyte imbalance, or me not sleeping well. Still, I got up and went for a walk. Before breakfast, and in the rain.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1451 calories, 15 net carbs. I’m noticing more and more that I don’t really feel hungry that often. I didn’t eat dinner too late. I heated it up and ate while I was raiding in World of Warcraft.

Exercise:

2.8 miles 50 minutes of walking. It wasn’t too bad out. Just mostly rain and a bit cold. I had a nice and wet sweatshirt when I got home.

I was hurting, and not feeling too great in the morning. That all started changing out on my walk. Eventually the pain wasn’t that much, and I started feeling better. It also helped that some great songs came on. EMPD – You Gots to Chill was the song that did it today for me.

I’ve always found music can be a great motivator for me. It might be time to build myself a walking playlist again.

Sleep:

12:33 am to 7:40 am. Sleep felt fine until the wife gets ready for work. I do recall turning a few times last night, but it wasn’t horrible. I was going to try to continue sleeping, but I was stirred awake too much.

I have some things to do with guildmates in World of Warcraft, but afterwords, I need to get a walk in.

Whoa, the scale lies!

Today I got up and did my normal weigh-in. The scale said I gained a pound. I don’t really give it much thought though. I’ll expand on it more in my Food review of the day. This is why you never fully trust that scale though!

Today when I got up, I wasn’t feeling all that great. I’m thinking it my electrolytes. So that is something I need to get back up to level quick.

Let’s Review Day 8

Day 8 started off great. I got up and took my weight, made breakfast, then went for a Costco run. I didn’t get out for a walk. It was raining, and my fitbit needed charging.

Monday night means bowling night in my scratch league. We had been off the last couple of weeks for Christmas and New Years. It was good to be back with my teammates. Unfortunately, we got slaughtered. We were in second place, and battled the first place team. My team wasn’t doing that well, and the other team was doing phenomenal for them. I did bowl well also. 210, 246, 226, for a 682 series.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1507 calories, 18 net carbs. Oven roasted some more chicken breasts, and once again my son took two of them right away. Food was a off today, at least dinner. Everything started off well enough. I just found I wasn’t very hungry around normal lunch time. So I didn’t eat lunch till after I picked up my son from school at 2:30 pm. So I was done near 3:45 pm. I usually leave for bowling at 5:30 pm. Next thing I knew, it was 5 pm, and I needed to shower and get ready to go. No time to eat. Again though, I wasn’t hungry. I didn’t end up being hungry until my 3rd game of bowling. So then I get home and get my dinner ready. By the time I was done eating, it was 10:45 pm. I have a feeling that played a part in my 1 pound weight gain today.

Exercise:

I ended up not walking. I did plan to in the morning, and put it off. Of course, I didn’t count on not eating before bowling. Everything felt in a tail spin, and the walk was expendable today.

Sleep:

Sleep was OK, but I recall being awake then few times after 6 am. I think it was part my wife getting ready for work, and me being uncomfortable. I went to bed a few minutes later so that I could finish reading the chapter in my book. Not too much later though. Fitbit tracked 12:42 am to 8:10 am.

No real small victory today, other then just me getting some things done around the house.

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 8

Week 1 summary

It’s time to sum up my first week to becoming healthy.

I have tracked my weight each day. Now weight isn’t the only factor into telling if you are changing. The scale can lie. Weight can easily fluctuate each day. Still, I am doing it every day to help me track trends. I have also taken body measurements to track that over time. I plan on updating those monthly. I have also been taking pictures. Selfie’s each day, and body pictures each week. By this time next year, I hope to have a really cool video of it all.

This week, I started at 367.6lbs. This morning I weighed in at 352.2lbs. 15.4 pounds lost this week! Now of course, a lot of that is probably water weight etc. Still, it’s a great start.

I also got some blood work done. Just the A1c test. Looks like I am still higher then I need to be. 6.2% and it should be <=5.6%. I want to email my doctor about my diabetes medication. I do my blood sugar testing twice a day, and a few recent ones are getting low.

Food:

Tracking in MyFitnessPal, it looks like I was pretty close to were I want to be most days for fats and protein. Overall it felt like a great week. I did have one day where I felt a bit more hungry, so I ate a little more. I freaked out a little on 1/6 because I ordered a sub in a tub, which had higher carbs then I wanted. Still, I worked it out. I have also been getting lots more water in now as well.

1/1 – 1257 calories, 16 net carbs
1/2 – 1429 calories, 17 net carbs
1/3 – 1307 calories, 14 net carbs
1/4 – 1720 calories, 18 net carbs
1/5 – 1297 calories, 12 net carbs
1/6 – 1897 calories, 12 net carbs
1/7 – 1458 calories, 18 net carbs

Calories mostly on the lower side, but I am feeling OK. Once I start getting more exercise into my routine, I will worry more about calories being on point as well.

Exercise:

My exercise goal this week was to get out walking 3 times this week. I did accomplish that.

I hope to improve a bit each week. Eventually getting back to 10,000 step days.

Sleep:

I think my sleep routine is working. Computer is off at 11:30 pm, then I read until 12:25 am.  That gives me time to get into bed, right around 12:30 am. All nights were good except 1/1 since it was New Years, and I was getting ready to start this whole thing.

So far today

So far today, I’m back at it. Got up, took my weekly pictures, weighed myself, and got myself to Costco. Did not walk as it was raining fairly heavy, and my Fitbit needed charge.

Cooked up some chicken breasts, which my son immediately at two of them again.

Found time to post over at my Nerd Fitness Challenge Thread, and wrote up this blog post.

Tonight my Monday night bowling league is back from Christmas and New Years break. It will be late, but going to get out for a walk when I get home!

 

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 7

I did blog yesterday about Day 6 a bit. I am getting this post out later at night, and I figured today I would post the weekend wrap up. Tomorrow will be Week 1 summary.

Saturday 01/06/18

I was up a little early to get things ready for bowling. I bowled in Dublin, Ca against the Amador Match Club. Sometimes the home team provides snacks. It use to be more meals, but Bowling center owners are worried about getting sued. The Amador match club had desserts out. Cookies, cupcakes, and fruit. Normally, I would have ate plenty. Today though, I had none. It isn’t worth it for me to eat all those carbs right now. This was my small victory of the day.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.   Higher up on Calories at 1897, but under 20 net carbs on the day. We tried out making ribs in the Instant pot. Technically ours isn’t the Instant pot brand, but a Crockpot on instead. Still, electronic pressure cooker. I had my ribs with no BBQ sauce. Didn’t want the extra carbs. I did see some sugar free sauce out there, that I might have to try next time.

Exercise:

None really done. I just didn’t get out there. Bowling and traveling to bowling took up a nice chunk of the day, so I was playing some catch up on other points of interest.

Sleep:

Overall, not too bad. Fitbit tracked 12:37 am to 7:31 am. I got up early to go get blood work done. I had a couple of wake ups, but I don’t feel it took a major toll.

Sunday 01/07/18

I got up early today, and got my blood work done. I’ve been overdue for it for a couple of months. So small victory today is getting it done. I also got out for a nice walk this evening. One of the reasons this post came late.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  1458 calories and 18 net carbs. I got worried a little today. For lunch we decided to eat out. So we went to Jersey Mikes. I got a Sub in a Tub. Basically whatever subsandwich you want in a container instead of bread. I went for the Big Kahuna. It is pretty good, and I have had it before in a tub. Well, I thought it was a lower carb version. Instead it ended up being 15 grams of carbs. So it just made dinner a little lighter for me haha.

Exercise:

2.4 miles walked. 44 minutes. Not too bad. Even grabbed a few Pokéstops out there while playing Pokémon Go. It was a bit cold, at least for California.

Sleep:

Well Obviously, I haven’t gone to bed yet. Soon though. I plan on continuing my reading in a few minutes. I am making my way through Leviathan Wakes, book 1 of The Expanse series. Then I will be heading to bed. I have somewhat of a busy day tomorrow. I have to hit up Costco for Chicken and Spring mix salad, and you know you have to get to Costco early.

My Journey to a Healthy me, Day 6

Here we are on Day 6. Getting this post out a little later since I had some bowling to do earlier.

I am in the Cloverleaf Match club, and we traveled to Dublin bowl today to take on Amador Match Club.

I did good by eating some Chicken and almonds before heading there. Though they did have a nice spread of desserts, I avoided them all, and just stuck to my water. More on Day 6 tomorrow.

Day 5 Summary

Yesterday was another dreary day out. I wasn’t feeling the best when I got up, and really did not want to walk. I did get up and did the dishes, as well as cooked some chicken breasts. Of course, my son came to devour them again. Still, I had extra. I also finished taking the lights off the Christmas tree, and got it out on the curb for pickup.

Then eventually, I did get that walk in.

Food:

MyFitnessPal Food Diary.  Under 20 net carbs again. Not many calories, but I don’t recall feeling hungry. So things are working as intended so far. I feel like I am making great strides here so far. I have been steady losing weight, and my morning fasting blood sugar tests are coming in under 100.

Exercise:

Again, I fought it all day. I was just in no mood to go walk. I had all the excuses ready to go. It’s raining, it’s late out, etc. I almost gave in. Then what I’ve called my “fuck it” attitude kicked in. The little beast mode creeping in, and giving me that must do it feelings. Next thing I knew, I was out the door.

My walk on Endomondo.  2.3 miles, almost 44 minutes. Longer then I originally thought I would do.

While I was out walking, I felt so proud of myself. Just getting out and doing it. I didn’t care that there was some rain, or that it was later at night. I was out walking, and I felt great. The mood was good enough, that I was taking some selfies along the way.

Sleep:

Sleep was a bit weird. I was getting up early to do some things this morning before getting ready for match club. Since I knew this, I went to bed earlier.  Fitbit tracked 12:10 am to 7:29 am. This should have been fine. Unfortunately,  I had a big awake period. Right around 12:40 am, I woke up. Then I rolled around, trying to get back to sleep, for like 38 minutes. I just could not get back to sleep. Eventually I did, but I recalled getting up, slightly, to move into different positions.

My small victory of the day:

Getting my walk in, when my brain tried so hard not to do it. I did it, and felt great while I was out there.

 

My Journey to a Healthy Me, Day 5

Day 5 comes to you from a cold and wet Northern California.

Not too much to report so far today. Precooked a bit of chicken breasts. Didn’t get out for a walk yet, and still need to take down the lights on the Christmas tree.

Bloodsugar test this morning was good. 81. It’s been over 100 the last few days to start the day off.

Day 4 review

Day 4 was pretty successful. I finally got out there and went for a walk. Nothing too far. I ate a few extra calories during the day, but still was under net carbs target.

Food:

MFP Food Diary.  Again, nothing fancy, just pretty basic stuff. I don’t have a certain calorie number that I must be under. I’m mostly focused on the Net carbs, and how much my body may actually be hungry. 1400 or so calories is about where I had been on other days. Day 4 I got up to 1720. Still not a big deal. Net carbs was at 18g total.

My dinner ended up being a little weird, because I was running late for bowling. I ended up heating up some chicken meatballs, and eating them on the way. Probably could have grabbed some almonds as well, but I hadn’t thought about it when I was leaving. At least this way, I wouldn’t get super hungry, hopefully, while I was bowling.

It worked. I didn’t feel too hungry at bowling. The bowling center was really muggy inside, so I was pretty hot. Definitely got in my water for the day. Drank 32oz just while bowling!

When I got home, I was able to test my blood sugar, then proceeded to eat the rest of dinner. Chicken breast, salad, and some almonds.

Exercise:

Went out for a quick walk in the morning. Didn’t quite hit 30 minutes total, but did get a little of a mile in. A decent first step.

Sleep:

In bed by 12:30 am again. FitBit tracked 12:34 am to 8:24 am. Sleep seemed mostly OK. I do recall moving around quiet a bit, and had a bit of a cough when I was fit laying down.

I think the wife agrees, we need a new mattress. Might be something we get pretty soon.

Small victory for the day:

Just simply getting out there for a walk.

 

My Journey to a Healthy me, Day 4

Day 4 is here, and I am feeling better today. Even with there being an earthquake during the night. I finally got out and got a walk in. Will have more on that in tomorrow’s recap.

I am checking my weight daily (even though I know it can really fluctuate), and have been steadily losing weight. I’ll have more on that with a weekly recap blog.

Day 3 recap

Day 3 was a little rough. I was tired and irritable. I mostly blame it on having a not so restful night of sleep.

Mental state

I wasn’t so much having cravings today, but more impulses. I saw some chips, and had that impulse to just want to grab and eat them. Same happened later on at night when I saw some M&Ms. Instant impulses wanted me to grab and eat all the things. I didn’t though. I also was feeling a little hungrier yesterday, but this is probably more with seeing all the junk food, and my mind really wanting me to give into the hunger impulses.

Food:

Here is MyFitnessPal Food Diary. My food seemed fine. I was under 20 net carbs again, So I am continuing the keto process. Had food impulses, but did not give in. Didn’t drink as much water as I should have, but still got quite a bit in.

I did cook more chicken breasts to eat for the week.

Exercise:

No exercise on day 3. It was raining quite a bit, but I never let that stop me in the past. I just didn’t get out there.

Sleep:

12:37am to 8am. I did get up around 4am to go to the bathroom. There was also an Earthquake last night. 4.5 scale. I did wake up, but really only long enough to hear my son ask if we felt it.

I am really enjoying my reading time that I am doing now. Reading, then sleep. I think it is helping me get wound down some, and it gets me to not stare at a screen right up till bedtime.

Small victory of the day:

Not giving into those grab all the food impulses. I was happy to not give in.
